British Values
Embracing British Values at Carr Green Primary School
As a maintained primary school, Carr Green Primary is committed to promoting the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We believe these values are essential in preparing our pupils to become responsible, engaged citizens who contribute positively to society
Promoting Democracy
At Carr Green, we foster an understanding of democracy through our Jigsaw PSHE curriculum. Pupils learn about the democratic process, the importance of voting, and how they can have a voice in decisions that affect them. Our school council, which is elected by the pupils, provides a platform for children to share their ideas and concerns. We encourage our pupils to express their views respectfully and to listen to others, developing their critical thinking skills.
Upholding the Rule of Law
The rule of law is a key focus in our school. Through Jigsaw, pupils explore the importance of rules and laws, both in school and in the wider community. They learn about the consequences of breaking rules and the role of authorities in maintaining order. Our school behaviour policy, which is based on our values of respect, responsibility, and resilience, helps children understand the importance of following agreed-upon rules and procedures.
Promoting Individual Liberty
At Carr Green, we believe in empowering our pupils to make informed choices and to develop a strong sense of self-worth. Our Jigsaw curriculum encourages children to explore their personal rights and responsibilities, as well as the rights of others. We provide a safe and supportive environment where pupils can express their views and make decisions without fear of discrimination or persecution.
Fostering Mutual Respect and Tolerance
Respect and tolerance are at the heart of our school's vision and values. Through our PSHE programme, we celebrate the diversity of our school community and teach children to appreciate differences in faith, culture, and beliefs. We encourage open and respectful dialogue, and we model these values in our interactions with pupils, parents, and the wider community.
